Taxes - larger refund than what was taken out?
I'm a full-time independent student. When I do my tax worksheet, without even claiming the tuition deduction, I get all the money back that was taken out of my checks for federal income tax. If I claim the tuition deduction, can I get more money back, or is the most possible you can get refunded is what was taken out?

- you definitely can get back more than you pay in. take it!
- Only some credits are "refundable" - meaning that you can get those amounts refunded to you. Most credits are non-refundable credits - they are reduce the amount of taxes you owe.
